Golden Slipper is a senior center housed in a senior residence in the City Line area of Philadelphia. Tutors work in small groups or one-on-one with mostly Russian or former Soviet Union learners. Tutors at this site will be able to set their own schedules at the beginning of the semester. During senior center hours, tutoring takes place in the large multi-purpose room/cafeteria, where occasionally other activities are taking place. On the weekends and at night, tutoring takes place in residents' apartments in the building. The Russian Advisor contacts the learners, sets up the groups, and monitors the tutoring. Most of the learners live on-site so it is extremely convenient for them and learner attendance is very consistent. Lutheran Children and Family Services sponsor other ESL classes that are held at the center.

Other Services and Activities Offered at Site: Daily meal program; social events; educational programs, ESL classes administered by Lutheran Children and Family Services.

Scheduling: The seniors are very eager to have tutors and have flexible schedules. When placed at Golden Slipper, tutors are able to determine their own schedules with the SHINE Coordinator, and Golden Slipper's Russian Advisor will match the tutors with the available learners based on the schedule. Tutors can work with their learners on the weekends and meet with them in the library or in the learners' apartments instead of the senior center.
