Multilingual Health Resources

Here are websites which offer health education materials in a variety of languages.  The list is organized by the type of health topics and languages available.

 

Resources Providing Information on Multiple Health Topics

Philly Health Info contains offers resources on a variety of health topics, including specific diseases and conditions, health and wellness, and medication information.  Resources can be searched by language or by topic.  Health topics range from information about cancer and hypertension to foot health and alternative medicine.  Materials are provided in Amharic, Arabic, Cambodian, Chinese, French, Gujarati, Haitian, Hindi, Igbo, Indonesian, Italian, Korean, Oromo, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Tigrinya, Urdu, Vietnamese and Yoruba.

The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service website contains information on a wide variety of health topics.  The website is searchable by language or topic, and can be used to find information on topics including disease, nutrition, mental health, men’s and women’s health needs, and health services.  When searching by language, you can choose from: Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Assyrian, Bengali, Bosnian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Dari, Farsi/Persian, Filipino/Tagalog, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Khmer/Cambodian, Koori, Korean, Kurdish, Lao, Macedonian, Maltese, Maori, Oromo, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Pashto, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Sinhalese, Somali, Sorani, Spanish, Tamil, Tatum, Thai, Tigrinya, Tongan, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, or Vietnamese.  By clicking on a particular language, you are given a sub-list by topic of health resources available in that language.

This website created by the Department of Health and Human Services contains a variety of health information in Spanish and Chinese.  While the site is directed at women’s health concerns, many of the topics covered are important for men’s health as well.  Some of these concerns are:  healthy aging, stroke, diabetes, breastfeeding, healthy pregnancy, stress, healthy diet, blood pressure, and obesity.

The EurasiaHealth Knowledge Network website has a multilingual library in which you can search for the specific health issues in which you are interested.  This site works much like a library catalogue, where you enter a specific keyword and subject. These resources are available in languages that are usually hard to find:  Albanian, Armenian, Azeri, Belarusian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Estonian, Georgian, Hungarian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Turkmen, Ukrainian, and Uzbek.

EthnoMed contains extensive information about different health topics in a variety of languages.  Some topics covered are cancer, cold and cough, blood, diabetes, fever, hypertension, mental health and more.  Resources are available in Amharic, Cambodian, Oromo, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Tigrinya, and Vietnamese, depending on the particular topic.

United States Food and Drug Administration, Office of Women’s Health: My Medicines

The FDA offers information in English, Spanish, Khmer (Cambodian), Chinese, Hmong, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Polish, Samoan, Tagalog, Thai, and Vietnamese on how to keep track of taking medicines.  Also included is a chart to write in the names of medications and when to take them.
