SHINE engages its local communities through establishing partnerships with community based organizations (CBO's), such as senior centers, churches, synagogues, mosques, etc. Through partnership with Project SHINE, these CBO's become regional gathering places for elderly immigrants looking for social interaction, public services and a chance to serve in their communities. SHINE sends students to these community partners to build personal relationships with elders through ESL tutoring.
Community Partners:
- provide space for ESL tutoring classes
- provide a supportive and safe environment for tutors and elders to learn
- collaborate with SHINE on projects, such as civic engagement initiatives and health literacy trainings
